THE EPIPHANY

Happiness is no more what it used to be

Happiness is no more where it used to be

Looking at you is scar reopening

Smiling at you is wound burning

In your arms is tears refilling

Lips on my cheeks is heart bruising

Bad memories seeping

Shaming the good like they were nonexistent

Dark days blooming

Like light hadn’t been and wouldn’t be

Perfect storm’s coming

Like a hurricane I’d prepared for

But who am I kidding?

I am happiness and happiness is me

I look in the mirror, behold a beauty I see

Elevates my spirit within

A delight I never could conceal

Though every day I am reminded I lost a friend

A sibling, I lost Mon Amie

Still every day I am reminded I gained some strength

I have myself, now I am getting used to it

Happiness is no more what it used to be

Happiness is no more where it used to be

Because happiness is whatever I call it

I am happiness and happiness is me
